Imitation Harley lights - are they worthwhile?

There's been plenty of threads that show cutting the header panel to fit these. But what I want to know is, over the long haul, are they a good upgrade?

Are they any good? They seem to be 1/3 the cost of the OEM genuine Harley lights.

Do they last? Has anyone found them to craze or go yellow with age?

Is it worth getting a pair of the 'imitation' Harley lights from one of the reputable ebay sellers - for example headlightsdepot for $178.95 pr or headlightswholesale $159.95 pr.

Are these the same imitation product?

Is this a case of you get what you pay for - so the genuine OEMs are really worth the money and are the way to go?

IMO, the OEM are much better quality in the long run and really aren't that much more. I have sold several sets to customers who first used the gypo aftermarket lights and they have had issues with water leakage, fogging, and hazing of the lenses.

I had a set on my last truck 04 6.0 pos and they were beautiful for about two weeks and then got moisture on the inside of both lights. I dried them and cleaned them put em back on and within a day they were fogged again

I have these same exact lights on my truck for about a year ( same seller) and I have been very happy with them, no issues at all. If not these then OEM for sure.

I have had the "Eagle Eye" lights on my truck for almost two years and they have fogged a few times, and the lenses have yellowed a little, but they are ok. I was going to get dealer but almost $400 for the set; no thanks for now!

I put the "Halos" one piece on mine and they look great. Not a bad price and they're still damn near new. Can't keep the bugs off'em worth a damn but otherwise I'm happy with mine.

One thing I was wondering is how much more work is it to replace the cheap xl truck sealed beam lights with the newer lights (I see they say they wont work) is that true?
Thanks and sorry about the hijack

If you are up for a bit of 'splice and dice' with the wiring, anything is possible.

I'm going to use the stock plug to run relays for the high and low beam of the new lights.

In fact, I planning to make 2 twin-relay harnesses and run each of the new headlights with a harness between the stock plug triggering relays connected to the battery (via fusible link) directly behind each of the headlights. The wire powering the headlight will be very short and very thick which will maximize the voltage getting to the bulb.

I've decided to give the 'headlights depot' 'gypo' set a go. I'll open them and carefully seal them with clear silicone sealant before I fit them.

Ideally I'd like to get the OEM set (a problem avoided is a problem solved), but I've just spent a bucket of cash on a pile of other spares, repairs and a few new tools.

You should see if you have a Certifit near you. I got my aftermarket Harley lights (says DEPO on the box) there for $67 each and they told me if I had any problems with them within a year I could return them for a new set. They have been for about 2 months and no problems so far.

I've just received the imitation Harley lights. They look good but in transit something got broken. A small plastic clip has fallen out and the reflector unit is moving about inside the light.
Has anyone opened one of these lights?
Is it just a matter of unlatching the tabs and prizing off the clear lens?
I'm sure it's an easy fix if I can get inside, but I don't want to risk breaking something that has taken a month to arrive!

Im the same as Jim, I bought the same as he did and like them. No problems as of yet,and if I do,will buy another set. If I have a front end collimation, I will let the insurance pay for OEM lights.

Got the Harley headlights. Opened the first one, resealed it, and now got it fitted. Tried for about 2 hours to get the second headlight's lens off, same as I'd done for the 1st.

It is sealed so good the actual headlight case is cracking up before the lens has even budged! I don't think there is ever going to be a leakage issue!

Will post pics once completed.
