So i went out and jacked up my 9" today and gave one of the tires a spin, and the other tire did nothing? Now im not to familier with rear ends and how they work or what there supposed to do for that matter, but i thought either 2 tires would spin together (posi) or when spinning one tire, the other would go in the opposite direction ...so why is only 1 tire spinning? Anyone shed some light on this?
After reading this I went out and did mine, its a 2wd 9". When I turned the driver side tire the other tire went the other way. The drive line did not move, I guess that would be for a 4wd, but dont really know.
The driveline does spin when I spin either tire, but only one tire spins at a time, I will check for a stuck brake
EDIT: The drivers side tire is kinda stiff when I turn it, where as the passenger side turns freely, I think Bobwires may be right with the stuck brake
if the driveline is spinning and you don't hear crunching and grinding then the rear end is probably ok. either stuck break or seized bearings. bearings don't seize unless they have been dry for a long time and allowed to rust - or super extreme conditions where they get too hot and wear out in a hurry.
has your setup been sitting in the elements? check brakes first, and go from there.
it's a good idea to replace all bearings and seals while you're doing this rebuild. a couple hundred bucks is well worth it in the end.
