My dad has an 86 f150 4x4 with a 300. The thing has always run really good except, the other day I drove it into town to get some gas and on the way the engine completely quit, I figured maybe it was out of gas and I was going at a good clip so I just left it in gear so maybe it would start back up however, after about 10 seconds of coasting I heard an explosive pop, and I pulled the truck off the road. The muffler had completely blown out the welded seam. I say all this to say:
I think perhaps that something in the ignition circuit quit and the motor was getting no spark, and since combustion was not taken place in the engine, it took place in the muffler resulting in the muffler's catostrophic failure. SO MY QUESTION IS: What do ya'll think could be the culprit of this catastrophe?
Yes, the TFI (Thick Film Integration) Module is the Ignition Module. It is mounted on the side of the distributor. In this picture the module is located under the yellow oil dipstick handle and next to the oil filter.
Well over a month after my last post. And the truck has just been sitting there. I put a tfi module on it, however it did not help, I don't seem to be getting a spark, could it be a bad ignition coil?
