Install clutch with motor in or out?

Heres the story. Im waiting for a new rebuild and i decided to put my old motor back in for the time being. I dropped just motor, flywheel, bell in the truck to see if i could get it to run ok. It runs fine but would it be easier to bring the motor back out or is there enough room to put the clutch and pp in with the motor in the truck easily? I just want it to be the quickest and easiest way so i can get the tranny in and truck on the road.

well is you motor totaly bolted up? i know 1 thing next time i have to change the cluth in my 1993 im pulling the motor and tranny out lol

Its bolted to the towers but thats it. I think if i do it in the truck, il have to find a way to support the rear if the motor because it falls back without the tranny bolted in

You can have it back in in a few hours. LOT easier that wrastling with it all.

no kidding...i dropped the trans in my 2wd 3 speed...cause i thought no problem...it wasn't fun at all....by myself except for all the dang dirt and rust....i ended up pulling off the front clip and pulling the engine out anyway....it was so easy putting it back in...i just rolled the truck under the engine and bolted it all back up...

I swapped my clutch in my 78 4x4 with the engine in. I didn't have a trans jack, so I ran a piece of 2" pipe through the wing window openings, took a come-along and hooked it around the trans through the hole in the floor where the stick shift comes through. Cranked it up a little to relive pressure, and unbolted the trans and transfer case from the supports, slid it back with a jack under the transfer case to balance it. It came off pretty good. You have about an inch of wiggle room up and down. Just swung right back. You need two people to put it back in tho, cause you need one at top to work the come-along and one underneath to guide it back in. Ended up putting my feet down by the bellhousing and hooking them onto the crossmember, grabbing the transfer case and givin' her a shove and she slid in. Used some threaded rod in the bolt holes for guides. Kind of a pain, but didn't have a trans jack or an engine hoist. The real mother***** was the pilot bushing. The new one I got was a hair too small. It had actually gotten mushed inward and had to use a unibit to take the lip off so I could get the trans back on. Once I got that figured out, it got a lot easier.
