Engine barely running
So, Friday my truck started to loose oil pressure, it went right down to ZERO, but when I would shut the truck off and restart, it would come back up for a few minutes and then back to zero. So my wife googled it and determined it was a clogged up oil filter, so I had the oil changed and that seemed to fix that problem.
later on that day, I was about half way home and she just started to sputter and stutter and wouldnt hold an idle, so I had it towed home. Again I had the wife google it and she found that it was probably a faulty AIC valve, replaced that and to no avail, problem not solved, limped it to advanced auto parts and tried a MAF as well and that didnt do anything.
ran the computer on it and it pulled 4 codes total.
1. Idle air control ckt
2. lean bank 1
3. lean bank 2
4. miss fire on cyl 4. (this happened before on cyl 5 and was nothing like what its ddoing now)
also for the past couple weeks, there has been like a rattle/pinging sound coming from the front of the motor, more towards the passenger side, but from where it sounded like it was coming from it was not inside the motor like if it was lifters or rockers.
Oil is also clean with no water in it.
It is sitting at the tire store down the road to have advanced diags done on it tomorrow.
Any thoughts?
What are the codes.
We do not go by what somene else says because most of the time they are miss interpeted by those who don't know what they mean.
Codes do not tell you what parts to replace.
Btw, an oil filter that is plugged shows gross neglect of the engine.
A spec filter would go into bypass and not starve the engine of oil.
A pressure issue may just be the oil switch on the filter adapter.
You need to look at all this from an informed position. If not, you will spend needless money, time and hassle.
Sounds like the engine has at least two faults.
You need to keep from being confused by more than one issue at the same time..
Good luck.
How did you check the compression?
One chain could be broken or jumped pf the cam gear.
The tensioners are oil pressure controlled so you would have to at least take the front cover off to see what you have and the valve cover for that bank to see if the cam is even moving.
The oil pump is also at the front of the crank behind this cover. It may be damaged.
my next move is to find another motor for it and do a swap in the near future, in the mean time I found a 95 ford conversion van. clean inside and out, excellent shape for about $3500. so thats what I'll be pimpin for the next few months.

My plan is to start by tearing into the timing chain cover and see what I can find there and then move onto removing the head to see how tore up it is and what else may have been damaged. I have had some tell me that it is an interference motor and others that its is not. It is a 01 f150 4x4 offroad with a 4.6 romeo. a definitive answer would be great. Also if it is an interference motor then at the very least the head is tore all to hell on that side, correct? and possibly the pistons may be full of holes from the valves too.
thanks in advance for the help. I already have another motor lined up so however it works out, it works out, but I like to tinker anyway.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
YOU are about to tear into a motor, and ultimately replace a motor, but you needed your wife to google a bad oil pump? how do you know how to swap a motor, but not how to change oil? to what extent is your mechanical knowledge?
guess that went out the window too didnt it.
i dont know if its just that its late or whatever, but this whole thread.....dumbfounds me.
