valve seats

i just finished doing a 3 angle valve grind on my intakes and I looked down and saw that one of my exhaust seats was tore up prettyt badly probably the seat where the burned exhaust valve resided, i was wondering if I go and have a new seat put in it should I just go ahead and get new seats for all 16 or just the one?

First thing is to have the head checked for cracks. Many times when you have a burnt valve, that also causes a crack. If everything is OK,at the most install 8 ex. seats. There is no need to do intakes.

Yes, check closely around the valve seats for radial cracks. Stelite seat would be worth while if you do all the exhaust. The are hardened.

The only real way to check for cracks is with either red dye and developer or to use MagnaFlux. MagnaFlux is the best.

Any good engine shop can do this. Shouldn't cost much and you'll need them to do the seats anyway.

Sometime if the cracks are small, installing a seat insert will cut out the crack, if larger than that find different heads. Trying to install a seat with a very tiny crack remaining will only be trouble down the road. The press fit of the seat will put pressure on the crack and besides I've never seen a crack shrink.

Good luck, check the seat with the burnt valve real good.
