Where are you looking? "Fine thread" is standard SAE or USF, depending on who you talk to, but if you're looking in the cheap hardware department at 'big-box-lumber-r-us' you may not find what you're looking for. In my little town, there's a half dozen places that sell nothing but nuts and bolts and related fasteners.

If what you need is real unusual, McMaster-Carr should have it. Otherwise I'd think Fastenal would have normal stuff. Stu

Home Depot and Lowe's have them, in the bins. Keep in mind, if you aren't going for a concourse resto, any nut/bolt combo in the fenders can be replaced by coarse thread sets.

I get mine at "Marshals Industrial Hardware." I'm not sure if you have one close or not.

I've also found that a good "Ace" or "True Value" hardware (depending on where you live) with the specialty drawers (like Ross mentioned) usually has them as well.

Just FYI, if those bolts that have the rounded head and the square section between the head and the threads, those are called "Carraige Bolts" just in case you want to ask someone where they may be.

You would use a regular "Hex Head" bolt to secure the running board barckets to the frame, and definately use the "Carraige Bolts" to affix the running board to the running board bracket..Those do not need to be "fine" thread..See the pics below. The carraige bolts holding on the running board are painted black (nickle sized round spots) and are in pairs about a foot ahead and behind the step plate. The silver carraige bolts are holding on the side pipes.

There may be a couple extra ones on the running boards that are there just to plug old holes.

thanks for the info guys

The problem that I have been running into is with the different thread type. Nothing that i have been about to fine will work with the bolts that are already weldied to the step brackets. I will just have to keep searching

You have nuts welded to the "Step" (running board?) brackets? Did you do that or were they on there already.

You might want to check to see if they are metric thread.

The Running board supports were riveted on the frame from the factory. You may be able to make it out in this picture:

Not necessary.....I guess you'll just have to find the right bolt.

Try a 3/8x24 1" long for the running board bracket to frame bolts.., if that's what your describing/ looking for.. Most will consider that a "fine" pitched thread...and not always commonly found. If you can get that to fit, then you can order what you need. That what a 55 f100 uses, don't know about the f250, but I would think it would be the same. Good Luck!
