Sounds like you are missing the voltage in the "run" circuit. Could be the ignition switch, the wire from it to the ignition module, or the ignition module.
Check and clean the connectors to the ignition module, they may just be dirty/corroded. They are located about 4-5 inches from the module and there is 2 of them.
I am at work so I am going by memory so hopefully I remember the colors correctly ....One connector should have a red and a white wire in it. The white wire should have 12 volts on it when the key is at start and the red when the key is at run.
Another possible problem is the resistor wire to the coil. Check and see if you have voltage at the coil when the key is in run. If you do not have any the wire could be broken, or more likely burnt up
Good luck.
i have power at the coil, but the truck stalls when i release the key. but if i hook 12volts from the battery to the battery side of the coil the truck runs just fine. i,m really stumped. thanks mudder trucker.
Check the voltage at the + side of the coil when cranking and after. You could get by for a while by using a toggle switch from +12 to a ballast resistor to the coil. I think it's the resistence wire or the ign switch, or bad connection.
