I have a 4day old 5.4 Exped and I want to know an easier way to get better gas mileage and the approximate mileage any one alse has. If you can i help I would appreciate it thank you.
I have '00 EB 4x4 5.4 and just drove a 1k trip. Had a slight head and cross wind. Drove at least 75mph, all on interstates. I have 7k miles and gas mileage was 14.5.... I live 18 miles from work, all interstate and can get close to 15.5 if I keep it slower than 65. BTW the computer is very accurate. Where is your oil filter located?
00 2wd XLT with 3.55 rear end, muffler changed to Flowmaster, intake reworked and chipped, 18.4 hwy. This is from gas station to gas station on the interstate, no stops between. Summertime at 95 degrees. Avg city 13 mpg.

Supercopman, I have a 2000' EB expi, 5.4 triton v-8. I averaged 13.1 mpg on the last road trip. Drove from N.J. to Florida. Average speed 75 mph. These figures were from the on-board computer and not calculated manually.
Why does everyone drive so fast? I have a '99 "E.B."5.4 4x4 Triton v-8 with no modifications. I drive up hill 150 miles to go hunting and get between 16 and 18.5 at speeds of 55 ( which by the way is the optimum mileage speed" and 65 mph, It now has 20k miles, I use mobil 1 fully synthetic and don't jam on the gas coming out of the toll booth. Coming home I get sometimes better than 20mpg. of course this is more on a down slope, but if I use cruise control on a flat out I can get just about 20mpg @ 55mph.
Dude, the point is, baby the gas pedal, it's a big boy, you got some serious power under your boots, respect it, it'll last longer....
Had a 97 best I ever got was 18 on the interstate, strong tail wind, almost always 12 mpg no matter where I was driving in town or on Hwy. Tried to slow it down it didn't help after I refinanced my house and used all my kids college money on gas I finally sold it and bought another Taurus. Really liked the Expedition though I just couldn't see spending 300+ on gas a month
I live up in snow country (Canada) and my 99 EXP gets about 10 miles to the gallon in town and 17.5 to 18 on the highway.
Our gallon is 20% larger! Your gas must be better quality.
Too bad Ford mileage figures are so misleading, but what a great truck. It costs $80 to fill up. Dinner for two is cheaper.
I have a '99 4x4 XLT 5.4L, don't know what gear ratio(wish I knew how to find out.), and the only mod is a drop in K&N. I seem to get about 15.5 on highway(flat west Texas highways), at 65-70 with A/C. In the city, I get a sad 11.5 consistantly. In my last car I noticed a 1.5 mpg increase when I changed to full synthetic lubricants(oil, diff, trans), On the Expedition, it didn't change a thing, 11.5 on the nose!
I have to go along with the 13.4. Mine is a 99 5.4, not sure what rear end. It does have the class 4 hitch and air suspension in the rear. My guess is that it is probably a 3.73 rear end. Any body know how to read the vin for the rearend ratio?
Intrestingly, I rented a 01 model for a couple of days before making the decision to buy. The rented model was a 4x4 so I assumed the mileage would be less than stellar. It actually got 17.3 on the freeway. I'd be happy with that!
Obviously the guy who wants to know why everyone drives so fast doesn't live in southern california. Most times 75 gets you run over!!
I have a 4.6 -- but I get a significant improvment in performance and gas mileage using a slightly higher octane. On the highway (no hills/stops) I went from 22 mpg to 23.9 mpg when I used 91 Octane.
