Left speaker out - 04 Explorer EB

The left front speaker is out on my wife's 04 Explorer. I checked out the wiring thru the door and out to the speaker and it looks good.

Any ideas what the trouble causing this speaker to be out may be?

The wiring may "look" good, but I bet you have a break in it between the cabin and the door. I've had to rewire two speakers so far in my 2004 Mountaineer. If you have access to an oscilloscope you could test for signal to the speaker from the deck, then again at the speaker to confirm that sound is coming from the deck but not making it to the speaker.

At first I considered trying to find the break and repair, but then I realized my solder splice would be in an area that needs to bend so I just ran a new set of flexible speaker wires, leaving plenty of slack so it maybe won't always bend in the same location.

There is also a TSB for this issue that suggest instead of a broken wire, the problem is due to water running down the window and causing corrosion at the connector to the speaker. That was not the case in my Mountaineer, but it's another thing to check. If water has been drenching the speaker, you might have a bad speaker and a bad connection. Another time the oscilloscope would come in handy....

Thanks Rod. I had the speaker out and wasn't getting any juice to it, which leads me to believe it is wiring. I didn't see anything on the speaker that would believe me to a water leak. I'll try to update this soon so anyone reading this can be helped.
