so i was dead set on just doing the ww, but now my buddy is trying to talk me into doing a ats housing i have looked into them but its quite a bit more thank the WW does anyone else make a comporable housing that does the same thing for cheaper?? and what about combinig the ww and the ats housing
If you can spring the cash the ATS housing is the prefered mod of the two, pretty sure it eliminates surge all together. I had the WW and it helped me plus a bit of whistle mashing on it. An ATS housing plus a WW equals a wicked whistling effect, heard it first hand and its loud, not for the faint at heart unless you like a loud whistle.
i dont mind me some turbo whine but how is it like whistle all of the time or just when you are on it hard? and will the ats with the stock wheel whistle more than our stock setup?
From the truck I heard it from it was all the time whistling, all thru the powerband. Guys here that have or had that setup will respond to their experiences. Yes, the WW with your stock turbo will whistle more but just on exceleration, getting on it of sorts. Thats my observations when I had my stock turbo with WW.
I've had a stocker with WW and ATS with stock wheel on my van turbo. The ATS does allow more whistle than stock, and the stock wheel moves more air than the WW, so combining the two isn't really beneficial, other than making a lot of noise. I really like how my truck sounds right now and I'm getting over 35psi out of my van turbo with no surge......
It's not that simple. I need ALL the air I can get due to the hybrid injectors I'm running. With stock injectors, I don't think you'll over fuel the turbo with the ATS even with a WW, but you will be making lots of noise....
I recall a post by bdrummond where he was saying that he had BOTH the WW and the ATS housing and he had to go back to the stock wheel. He said it sounded like a dentist's drill running in the cab all the time.
The ww isn't as efficient as the stock wheel. Doing both wouldn't be beneficial i would think. The reason for doing the ww is its just a cheaper alternative to the ats housing, but it may not fix the problem all the way and isn't as efficient. If you can swing the housing just do that. But then later you'll probable want a 1.0 exhaust housing andthen you're half way to a38r.
I you can spring for the ATS housing do it. I had bad turbo surge when hooked up to my trailer, absolutely NONE now, plus its easier than installing a wheel.

YEP! I agree completely with spdmpo's statement. I went with the ATS housing and kept my stock compressor wheel. My air filter is the AIS so the noise isn't a factor for me.....I've already lost enough of my hearing due to flying in the back of a KC-135 for 20+ years. I want to drive in quiet comfort (as much as is possible so I can hear my stereo). I love the power (w/DP tunes) at both the high & low ends.
