I recently replaced the mast on my power antenna on my 98 Explorer Sport (was actually amazed how easy that was !)
Anyways, the Expy was missing the trim piece for the antenna base when I bought it last year and it looks kinda crappy... I've tried everywhere online and can't seem to find one, maybe I'm not putting in the proper description in the search bar?
Anyone know where I can get one of these pretty cheap ? I don't really feel like walking though a boneyard.
I just replaced one on my 97 MM; Ford calls it a capacitor (go figure).
I suspect that's something different. A capacitor is a passive electrical device that, in this type of application, would be used to reduce noise, and not a mechanical device.
If I'm understanding your description correctly, you're after the base cap and/or the base nut. If this link works, take a look at the illustration.

The part in the link should be right, they are plentiful in boneyards too.......just use care removing them, the plastic tabs that anchor it into the fender break easily.
Nope, not something different. It is the little plastic cap that trims out the base of the antenna mount, has a hole in the center that the mast goes through. Ford parts man also laughed when he saw it on his IPL and it printed out the same on the invoice.

How much was the price from Ford ? If its around $10 or so, I'll pick one up...
From the description above, that would be the base cap. From what I've found with my dealer, they charge exactly the MSRP as listed in the link. So, you might expect to pay around $4.39 for the base cap.
