Quick EEC IV question
Am looking for a mass air computer that will run a 5.0 or 5.8 and an E4OD.
I found a couple of F5TF 12A650-JB (WAY1) units but I'm not sure if they are mass air with sequential injection.
The line on the sticker above where it says F5TF etc says:
EECIV EFI-SMD221
Is this correct?
The speed density PCM's that I have all say EFI-SDxxx and I was thinking, for some reason, that the MAF units would say EFI-MAFxxx.
This is supposed to be a '95 Bronco 5.0/E4OD Federal emissions unit.
Does that make a difference as to being sequential or maybe emissions standards?
As always, I'll appreciate anybodies input,
Rob
Well, I guess I'll go for it. They're pretty cheap used.
I want to take the motor from the Ranger in my sig and put it in my FlareSide but keep an EFI/auto setup.
I'm hoping that the factory intakes are up to it. It's not a high compression engine, ~9:1
Probably makes a bit over 300 hp and needs 600 cfm to run good.
As long as the computer is a MAF and can adjust to the new demands. I looked at the Quarterhorse tuner that Conansky has mentioned and it looks affordable and the learning curve doesn't look as bad as something like Megasquirt (whew!).
Tho I'd still like to run some LS-2 coil packs if I can get them to work with the EEC-IV. I'd need to interface that with some kind of driver board. Have to look into that.
Thanks,
Rob

If you just can't help yourself, here's the source for your fix. These guy's stuff rocks!:http://www.performancedistributors.com/index.html
I also went to the QuarterHorse site to see if it was referred to directly but didn't see it. From there I linked to the EECTuner site and there was mention there on the WAY1, and mention of being able to tune the E4OD also, even sort of stating that there were 'definitions' for that.
I'm not quite up on the definition thing and was going to spend today asking some questions there, but the site seems to be down.
From what I could gather these EEC IV's are seriously programable with the latest tools but are somewhat complicated to set up right. And there are hundreds, it seems, of different factory setups.
Generally speaking, tho, it seems that if the box has the physical hardware to perform a certain function, then you might be able to tune it for your application, whatever it's code might be.
For instance, a box that is built for an SD motor will never be able to run MAF because some of the needed components are simply not present on the circuit board. I would assume that the manual vs auto tranny thing would be like that also.
Also there seems to be a bit of year specificity. It seems that Ford did a serious overhaul/update of the '94 and '95 EEC IV's before switching to EEC V in '96 and changed a bunch of stuff. A 'softer' engine tune was referred to in the later units and also a new type of EGR sensor/valve used that caused running/tune problems.
I really haven't explored all that thoroughly yet, being mainly concerned at this point with obtaining a suitable box to get started with. These WAY1 units are '95 models, tho, for whatever that's worth.
