Hello. I have just registered for what I am sure are many more questions to come . I just purchased an old '91 F150 XLT Lariat "beater". Among a long list of problems that need attention is a fuel pump problem. The first time I drove it (over 30 miles) the fuel tank continued to run with the key off. Since the front tank is inoperative, I flipped the selector switch to that tank and the pumped stopped. After it sat for awhile, I was able to set the switch to the rear tank again without problems. I assume something is becoming overheated and grounding the circuit. Has anyone heard of this happening? What would be the most likely culprit here? Oh how I miss the days of one mechanical fuel pump and a carb!
I had the same problem in my 90 F150 and it was just a bad fuel pump relay. Replaced that with one from Schucks that only cost me like $10-12 and haven't had a problem since. Easy fix, really.
