Ok for my second post of the day ....calling all a/c experts .... Got the a/c charged up but the compressor isnt kickin in and out ,causing the lines to ice up .... There is a temp sensor under the dash in the evaporator.... is there any way to test that switch? could it be something else? I got lots of parts trucks to pick from but want to test it before i put things back together ....
Almost got the bugs worked outta the resto-project ...
When the evaporator core is frozen up, the evaporator switch should be open. Actually, before it freezes up it should open to prevent freeze up. Some old switches I have seen have been adjustable. If yours is, try to adjust it.
I am fairly new to the dents, so they my have never had an adjustable switch.
However, it should not have continuity when the unit is frozen.
^^^ Agreed. Also, check how well that blower motor pushes air through the evap. If the motor is weak and cant push enough air, it will also cause the evap to ice up.
When i run the a/c full, even with the replacement temp switch(non adjustable), the compressor doesnt cut out/cycle, as it should, thus the ice build up ..... Should i be able to feel air move through the evap inside to the cab (see first pic)?
pull one lead off the t-stat while the system is running, see if that shuts the compressor off,
Freeze ups are usually caused from control issues or air issues if your not moving enough air across the evap or the evap is dirty or plugged the system will ice up.
