Its a half and half thing. It all seems to be different when it brakes. I think that warn hub fuse stuff is a joke, I don't want to carry tools and spare parts. I want to be able to beat on it and have no failures. That's why I went from half ton to one ton. Seeeems to never end on finding weak links
I think you're best off blingicizing the tons, possibly cheaper too. Get some bling as CV shafts with a lifetime warranty and get some!
Or you could step down to a little narrower tire, those pitbulls are huuuuge. Do you have any clearance or traction issues as is? Think you could get by with something a little smaller?
Smaller tire!? No, that's one heavy rig, with the wide tire it helps it "float" where I was getting stuck with my 42s. The tires clear good enough, and when they are aired down they are maybe 41-42 inches tall. I run between 4-6 psi most of the time for maximum traction. But, I'm thinkin you guys are right, I should just go out and get the bling shafts and be done with it.
With what's available for a 60 now, unless you are planning on running 54's, there isn't really a point in Rocks, guys are breaking stock rockwell stuff with 47's, and Overson stuff ain't cheap. A 60 front with RCV axles is pretty much bomb proof for a 44" tire app, without needing the truck to be stupid tall.
Well that is a good point he would have to upgrade the rockwells too. But I know several guys on pirate that have broked even upgraded d60s. I think I remember somebody here how really broke a 35spline axleshaft. I just think with what he's doing if hes on the fence and will be putting money into axles either way it could make sense to just start with the bigger set of axles.
What are the longfields worth anyway? Like $2000
pretty good investment but also pretty badass! I really like the fact that they can still run smooth even when in a hard turn and gassing it hard.
I say go to 2.5's. Your strictly an offroad truck right? If you keep your same tires I dont think that youll have any issues breaking and should be worry free. You would be able to do the swap probably cheaper than building the 1tons. And you could sell the 1tons and get money back...
My. 02
But the added height and width of the rocks is a factor too. The truck see's trails, and typically both of those are not good qualities of a trail truck.
I'd say go for rocks, but you already passed up the deal I gave you Dave. I think the one tons would be better. Wouldn't have to worry about the hassle of a swap. Adding up everything driveshafts, suspension, crossmembers, yadda yadda i'm sure you would be into the rocks more then building your D60. But like Tinian said, if you ever do upgrade you could sell your tons to pay for them.

I have to beef BOTH axles, the rear 10.25 is broke right now. Needs housing and upgraded shafts.
I wouldn't sell the tons, I'd keep them for another project down the road, OR put them in the DD with some 38-40 inch tall tires. I'm lookin for a 4 banger car for a DD.
And a couple pics for a recap. Lol
The fancy warn premium hubs
One of the 3 stub shafts I broke.
One ring gear.
Rear, one axle shaft, and split spindle. Have also broke the yoke, but that's minor.
Second, maybe add a couple ponies to help a little with the drive train.
Third, Id upgrade the tons. CVs in the 60 and Id do double ended Sterling shafts...35spline inners and 40 spline outers from CTM. $1200 with the drive flanges last time I priced them. There are a metric crap-ton of tractor pull guys running those shafts with great results.
I Looked at some 35 spline both ends for the 10.25, looked about $900 for shafts and caps.. that was with 300M shafts... so the 1.5 inch diamiter would be ok I'd think... dam, almost $3000 in shafts for this ****ing thing......

There really wouldnt be much to add. If you keep it leafs, no need for a subframe or anything like that...
And like said before, keeping the hubs in on the axles makes the width almost the same as a 1ton.
I had alot of money in my built 1 tons, and I hadnt even done anything with the rear shafts. And you can see where I'm at now...lol.
Granted, you probably dont want to go near as big as mine, but I think your truck, with the same tires and 2.5's would be a very dependable rig.
