Supercrew 5.5 or 6.5 foot bed
Looking at buying a Supercrew to replace my Chevy Ext cab with the 6.5 ft bed. I have a F250 Ext Cab Longbed 4x4 and you can pee in the middle of the road and it will darn near get stuck. The supercrew with the longbed is close to the same wheelbase. Has anyone had experience with both and how do they compare in the mud and snow?

My first Supercrew 150 was a 2002 w/5.5' bed. I was not happy with that size and when I purchased my 2009 I got the 6.5' bed and I am very satisfied with the choice. It all depends on how much you haul in the bed. I haul and tow and I have yet to have a problem with the 2 piece drive shaft.

I have never not been able to put something in my 5.5ft bed that would have fit in a 6.5ft. Obviously there is a lot of things that i cant haul with it, but it wouldnt have fit in a 6.5 ft bed either.
It really comes down to what do you use your truck for. Personally i like the look of the 5.5 a little better, just because the 6.5 makes the screw look so dang long. And when i hook to a trailer to do most of my work anyways. The bed is obsolete. I use it to haul coolers and tools mostly.
Good luck

I went from a Explorer Sport to a Screw with the 6.5 foot bed. I thought it was going to be a problem for me since my last pick up I drove on a regular basis was my grandfathers F250 regular cab with 8' bed, but as I found out driving the screw was not a problem for me to adapt to. THe only time it feels really long is in tight parking lots. I havn't had a problem with wet roads with it.
As far as hauling goes, I have filled the bed quite a few times and having the 6.5 over the 5.5 made the difference to being able to put my bed cover on or having my gear exposed.

I'll put my opinion out there. I'd opt for the 6-1/2 ft. bed for two reasons. You can get more in the bed if you need to haul someting home like from a swap meet and with the 6-1/2 ft. bed you can get the 35 gallon fuel tank which increases your range on the highway. To me that's important while towing my enclosed car hauler as I really don't want to have to fuel up every 150 miles.

If its a SCrew it has the 36 gallon tank option for both 5.5 and 6.5 bed configuration http://www.motorcraftservice.com/pub.../10f12og3e.pdf p. 403

Well, personally, I purchased an 8 foot bed.
I've also installed a cargo roller-bed and high-rise cap.
I can load and carry a snowmobile, kamatik, motorcycle, atv, camping/hunting gear, building supplies and a variety of other things.
This and for towing my trailers and boat is why I bought the truck.
The turning radius may need 10 miles of track but I'm experienced enough to know the routine required.
This is my 5th truck with full size bed and I can't justify a smaller one for my own needs.
I have many friends with smaller beds that on more than one occasion have requested my assistance in transport of materials (moving large articles always seems to come to mind).
To each his own, though if I required only occasional small loads, I may have purchased an SUV instead, far more comfortable for passengers.
Cosmetics mean little to me, functionality is key. I of course keep my ride looking pristeen and mechanically sound.
