ya, i seen that one last week. its got the big downpipe so thats cool... having it rebuilt will only be about 650. you can get the compressor wheel all day long, no issues there. offer him $350 and i bet he'd take it
ouch, thats a rough system. Looks like it needs more than i would bother with. My banks kit im getting is just a bit more and it is 100% complete and does not need a rebuild, no leaks and solid. I'd honestly cut it in half because of the cost of rebuild, then you would be at the going rate at 750ish. 250 for turbo, 500 for rebuild. DONT pay 500.
If the wheel really is the only thing that's damaged, there's lots of places you could send it to and have them install a new wheel, balance it and send it back for $300 or so. Or even better, send it in and have the housing machined and an upgraded wheel installed, which you could probably have done for $400 or less.
There's a place I worked with once and have gotten a few quotes from called gpop's turbo shop that seems to have pretty good prices.
For example, balancing on a complete turbo is $100+ return shipping. A complete rebuild (replacing standard wear parts only) is $350 + return shipping. I was asking them about wheel upgrades awhile back, and the way it was worded was a tad confusing but the way they said it was that if you bought a new wheel AND wanted to have it put on the turbo and balanced, they would include a rebuild in the job and it would be around $200-250 for the wheel and $350 for the rebuild.
