i seen there are 2 types of header for my truck, hedmen and hooker. anyone use any of these (i know silver streak has the hedmen)...also it says the hedmen only fits up to 89 and 2wd, will i be able to use it on my 93 4x4 with some minor modifing? and what kind of power gains will i expect? thanx

My truck is a 90 and they fit just like they would on an 89. I think they say they fit up to 89 because that's the last time they updated that section of their catalog or something. My cousin has a 93 4x4; comparing the two side by side I didn't see any reason why the Hedman's would not fit his truck. I don't know if he ever installed them or not.

As far as which brand to go with, it's just a matter of personal preference. There is probably very little difference in the two brands. Hedman used to offer a lifetime warranty on their headers. Generally speaking, there are 3 levels of header out there. The first is the crap they sell at Autozone and in JC Whittney for $75. There are a few out there at that price level that are OK. The next level are the names like Hooker and Hedman from $100-300. These are fairly good parts for the money, but concessions are made to keep costs low. The third level are the true works of art that start at about $700/set and go up. These fit perfectly, don't leak, and make very good power. I have $120 headers on my f150 and $850 headers on my Lightning. The extra $730 was well worth it for the extra quality on a new truck, but not a 13 year old truck. Also keep in mind that some places want to charge more for extra thick flanges on their headers. The flange has to be thicker on the 300 anyway so that it mates with the head and intake manifold properly. In other words, if someone tries to charge you extra for thick flanges buy somebody elses header.
