trailer plug location....
trailer plug location....
So over the years of backing into snowbanks while plowing I have bent the bracket that holds the 2 trailer electrical plugs. After bending it back a bunch of times I thing its seen its last day... On top of that the 4 prong plug is all green and nasty (it does not work).. Does anyone know where I can get the bracket and a set of new plugs (other than the dealer)?
I noticed there is a bracket mounted on the hitch itself that sets back a little farther. Is that something I can get a bracket for? Im looking to tuck the plugs unter the truck a little better so this dosent happen again.
Any advise is appreciated.
Thank you,
Rob

I had a corsica recently bend mine. Poor car.
Mine sets back on the hitch and I could bend it back. Here's a copy links I was considering for the 7-pole because I could not find a motorcraft replacement.

I'm actually looking to do the same replacement because the PO tapped into a bunch of the wiring and it's been acting up on me. I want to start with a clean slate.
From all of my searching, I don't think you can get an exact replacement from anywhere but the dealer. If you want to do some splicing, you can get something from etrailer.com, or Wal-Mart, or any parts house. I want to get a harness and plug from an '08 and up though because I like the style better. The harness plugs into your main vehicle harness on the drivers side somewhere above the axle (approx).
That's all I know so far, as I haven't started tackling this project yet. It's 5 or 6 items down on the list.......

This kit says it's for 99-01 models, but it might work for later years. You'd have to examine the plug to see if it's the same.
It also doesn't have the built in 4-way, if that's important to you.

Nice find!! I guess I couldn't find it because I was looking for an '06?
Anyhow, you could use that wiring harness, coupled with this style plug to get both a 7-way and 4-way -
Pollak 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket w/ Mounting Bracket - Vehicle End Hopkins Wiring HM40975
I've seen these at local stores as well. It's basically the same as what is on the '08+ trucks. I like it because it doesn't have separate wires for the 4way.

I put my 7 pin connector in the bumper. There was a factory 6 pin there. I just cut the hole a little bigger so I could get the 7 pin setup in there. Looks better there than hanging below where all my other plugs have been.
