I am currently replacing my 9th and 10th injector today at my local Ford Dealership. I have 255,000 km (appx158000miles) . This time my truck did not show the "normal" signs of my wallet lightening up. Usually its a misfire followed by major loss of power and the abundance of white smoke, hesitation etc. This time my 2006 f350 is taking a really time to start, almost until my batteries were dead, then a puff of Black smoke followed by white smoke until it warmed up. Then after warming up for 20+ min it would run fine. In my mind it was glow plugs or glow plug module. nope, they just called me and said it was the Egr Valve and and 2 injectors. I told the woman what normally happens and it never acted like this before when I had to get injectors done. She argued with me on the phone and said ... if there is no glow plug codes then there is no problem with the Plugs. I am still at a loss...... why can't they figure out the root cause? should i find a new dealer? or new truck?? any ideas?
PS she says it's normal to regularly change injectors.... also I am the only owner
Being a member of the injector club of the month, is not normal. Fresh oil and fuel pressure is all you need to keep them alive. What fuel pressure are you seeing and what oil do you use?
and thats my thought.
also whats the fuel pressure doing?
are you changing the oil all the time?
have you tried syn oil 5-40?
do you have the latist reflash?
I had to replace two injectors to a couple weeks ago. Cheezit, is 5w40 better to use for the inject then 15w40?
never tried it myself. I have changed the oil in my ride every 3k sence I got it. as well as 5-40 cost me money.
lots of good reports on its use for that concern.
well I am back from the Dealer....
Fuel pump pressure is 52 psi,
FICM tested okas per the service lady but not documented on the invoice so no numbers
Replaced #6 & #8 injectors. both failed at -48rpm
Replaced EGR Valve.
As for oil I was running 5 w 40 Syn for a couple of years but as my first few injectors failed Ford said no more 40 weight oil, due to the fact I live in Canada and its too cold. I am only supposed to run 10 w30, year round. so ok. back to dino oil I go. I am only using ford filters for the oil and fuel. I wasn't for a little while off and on without any problems but because of these forums and videos, I won't do that again. I do my oil changes at about 3k to 4k miles . fuel filters every 12 to 16k. I have done everything they tell me and it seems like something mechanically is wrong that is not throwing codes. I practically begged them to find a solution to my problem but they dont care. My truck is my job every day its down I dont work. No i am not running any hot smoky tunes either.
thanks again for any help
I'm in Winnipeg. My next oil change I'm gonna try a Rev-X treatment. Got it coming from Eric and Innovative Diesel. I'm hoping it will help with the cold starts in winter. My dealer always puts in the 10w30 also.
I want to try Hot Shot Secret. it was developed for International to fix their injectors. They happen to be the same as on these 6.0's. but i will wait until i am close to the end of my warranty.
so guess what........ same thing this morning after my truck was "fixed" at the dealership. I cant stand service people who don't listen. I asked again before leaving and they said the glow plugs did not register any codes..... Is it possible the computer may not catch something that is failing?
Glow plugs are not normally a problem with the 6.0L. I would leave it at the dealer so they can hook up to the truck and do a cold start in the morning. The tech should get an idea from that.
Since you're past 100kmiles, I presume all this work is being done on your dime. Correct?
Check the FICM yourself. It will only take 1/2hr - 1hr of your time. Threads here explain the testing procedure.
No codes and an extremely hard start certainly point towards a problem with the FICM. JMO, but I'm not a tech.
I'd also look for another dealership to work with. I dealt with two other dealerships that were severely lacking in 6.0 expertise, before finally finding 6.0 savvy folks at a third one.
