I currently have a 2001 7.3L Diesel that needs the oil pan replaced. My question is can the cross member be taken out, replace the oil pan and then re-bolt in the cross member? If this can be done what if any are the concearns with doing this? I would assume that a good portion of the front end weight should be off the frame by use of engine hoist....any and all advice is appreciated!!!
Your best bet is to remove the engine and replace the oil pan that way. The cross member needs to be cut and re-welded plus the seal on the pan lip is most likely to not re-seal well thus resulting in a leak.
