2005 6.0 L

ok guys,

So i'm a current F150 guy and i'm currently looking at a 2005 F250 with the PSD. i'm tring to swing a deal to get this truck but wanted to see what you guys thought about that year for reliability.

I know little about the PSD other than the chatter about this is better than that or that is better than this.

Bottom line for me is that i'm looking for something thats going to last me a long time. I do towing of firewood and a host of other stuff that i'll get good usage out of a PSD.

How reliable are these engins and what should i look for.

Thanks

05 is when the 6.0 started getting reliable. When i got my 6.0, i got an oasis on every 6.0 i looked at. Id do the same. Thatll help determine if the 6.0 your lookin at is troublesome. How many miles are on it?

52,000 miles

It's a Lariat truck ext. short bed. it's really nice but i'm a little hesitant because of all the issues i'v heard of. i did think that in 2005 that was the so to speak turning point but wanted to check here first and see what you guys think.

thanks

From what i have read, it was the turning point in 05. But get the OASIS. Ford dealers do it for free. At least mine did. Then post what the oasis says. Also if you dont mind me askin, how much are you going to spend? For a little bit more you could always go get a 06 MY 6.0.

the truck is listed for 24,900. I'm only willing to spend 21,000 on it. It's been sitting on the lot for 9 months now and they can't move it and i've been watching it closly for quite some time now.

I think they will bit on it because they are a small shop and probably woudl do better moving it vs. keeping it on the lot for no reason. It was a lease buy-out. I do want to get an OASIS report on it and i'll post it here.

what changes did they make from 2005 to 2006?

9 months is a while to keep it on the lot. Its probally costing them alot to advertise the truck haha.

From what i found their are a good amount of differences between 05 and 06 6.0s. Which bums me out because i just re read my oasis report and my 06 F350 has a 05 6.0 under the hood blahhh. haha. With that said, In Jan of 06 Ford started the "commonized 6.0s"

Here are some differences:

More EGR valve improvements
Commonization changes (in preparation for the 6.4L production)
Larger turbo oil supply and drain tubes
A Revised Machined Recess turbocharger
Bracket installed on the high pressure oil pump discharge (STC fitting) for production models after August of 2006.

Be very, very cautious. There's usually a reson for this. The fact that it's a 6.0L throws up a HUGE red flag.
