Been seen before when washing the F-150. After drying the entire truck, water will continue to slowly leak out from under the blue oval on the tail gate. Water will run down the tail gate for an hour or more so the adhesive pad that holds the blue oval is like a sponge and holds water. Where water is left sitting, rust soon follows.
Has anyone else noticed this?
them emblem has beed stuck on the same way since 04 and up never heard of any problems, but it does get me when im trying to waxs my truck all the time.
i was more concered about the plastic on the top of the bed sides wearing through the paint and rusting. My paint is wore off under my bedliner in spots, But i am getting a spray in liner to solve that. not sure if the will spry under those caps or not.
Even if it did.......the constant rubbing of the caps would keep the rust away.....i've never had anything but a drop in liner....and every one when i've sold it i pulled the liner out....no paint left......but also not a spot of rust......including everything back to my 95....

yeah i never thought of it like that. if it takes the paint away it will take the rust away too.
My emblem on the gate used to do the same thing. I wasnt worried about rust, but it was so annoying because of the constant streak that would be there. And it would then dry and turn into a hard water stain. After a rain, after a wash, like you said it would run out of there for hours. I decided that it was maybe a problem with the adhesive seal on the emblem, so I had a new one put one. Body shop did it for free, I just had to buy the emblem. That fixed the problem. I am really glad I did it. the only place I am really worried about on my truck is inside the bumper, like behind the tow hitch I noticed some beginnings of rust. Has anyone seen any there? I sprayed some clear rustoleoum all over it, I don't know if that would help or not. Like I said, it is on the inside. I have no idea when or if it would come through. Problem is my bumper is painted, so it is not as simple as a new bumper if it does, it is a new bemper that has to be painted.
I don't like how you can see the bed from the back wheel wells. There should be a protector and there isn't. Kinda pisses me off. My damn emblem drips too!
