Is there a tab on the camshaft or something that the CPS reads?
My truck is still not starting after a week and a half now. I just don't have the time or proper diagnostic tools/abilities to troubleshoot it so I took it to a guy who's had it for nearly a week now. He says he's checked all the fuel, oil, and injection systems and believes them to be good. His feeling is that "the button on the camshaft has fallen off".
Does this sound reasonable? And would it cause my truck to stop?
Imagine this... The gear on your camshaft is about 6" in diameter.. It's pretty dang big around anyways.. The part that the CPS reads off of goes all the way around the outside of the gear and has a bunch of slots in it for the CPS to read. If something that size came off in the front cover you dang sure woulda heard it make a stupid sound when it quit. Are you getting good ICP when you crank it???
I had a similar problem with my 97. No codes, no start. Turned out to be the injection pressure regulator. The plug had bare wires and the regulator had some gunk in it. It was starting hard, idling rough and burning more fuel. Runs like new now.
