I just recently inherited a 78 F-150 explorer ranger truck, and the motor has spun a bearing. So I am looking to replace the engine, it has currentlty a 351/400 M and C-6 trans. I have found a 400 that had a recent overhaul for a decent price, I was wondering will I need a different flexplate for the 400 because of the difference in the crank shafts between the two motors? Is there anything else I need to know about swapping out the 351 m for the 400.

Flexplate remains the same. You can even reuse the 351M harmonic balancer, but the timing marks won't line up. Drop the 400 in and call it good.
