Have you checked your distributer? Something could be slipping and retarding your spark causing a backfire. My 215 never did. I ran it stock for a couple of years before pulling the original drive train. My dad and I restored a Model A coupe when I was a teen and we had the same problem. Found the distributer to be the problem. Just a thought.
Thanks for the advice. I was kind of thinking along the same lines. I just need to find another distributor, perhaps. I have another 215 from a 53 that might donate its distributor to the cause. Maybe I'll just bite the bullet and buy a new one. They can get expensive.
It could have something to do with the ignition system parts. Even if you have new pieces, points, condensor and other parts, they all seem to be pretty crappily made. I had a bad condensor on my F-2, I installed it new last summer. It's a place to check out.
Yes, Bob, I also remembered about your condensor issues yesterday when the truck was backfiring. I'll have to check everything again; cap, rotor, condenser, points, etc.
