I did a search on here about these switches but mostly i just found where people were trying to order them. I found the four wires under the hood at the firewall. does anyone know what has to be done to make these hot. I see the fuses in the panel for them. some 10 amp.. even a 30 amp. I'm just hooking up some additional lights up front. which amp would i want and what needs to be done to make these work. The lights come with a switch but its kinda cheesy so rather just use one of these switches if possible. I went from "ground" to these wires with a test light and nothing. any help would be great.. thanks.
Those wires under the hood are just wires going threw your fire wall. I think there red, blue, black, and white. They're under your dash panel too. If you have up fitter switches they should be in a bundle under your dash panel also. I can't remember the colors of em but I think there's two 15 amp circuits and two 30 amp circuits. I'm probably wrong on the amperage as it's been a while since I've been under the dash but maybe someone will chime in with the correct answer.
You were not clear about whether you already have the switches or not. They are not standard equipment on all trucks. But I will assume you already have them and want to utilize them.
im sorry,, yes i already have them. and i figured out the ones under the hook are not connected yet. I did find a bundle of wires that looked as if they had shrink wrap on them but it was a bunch of them together, ,maybe 12, and wierd colors. I found some pics on here and the pics showed maybe 4 and was much larger looking. I did find it was like two 10 amp and two 30 amp. My number one is a 10 amp so i'd like to use that if yall think thats enough to run to more driving lights. I"ll check the link you put up.. maybe it will help.. thanks for the advice.. anyone else feel free to jump in. Herb
Check the lamps to be sure, but a 10 amp circuit is not enough for most pairs of lights. So either use a 30 amp switch, or else use a relay. You might need a relay anyway, even for the 30 A switches.
Most guys use #4 for high idle, which is a 10 A switch.
I believe that one and two are 30a service, and three and four are 10a. If your lights need more power than this, you'll have to use a second relay (the switches already have relays built in).
