Ok. I have a 1988 f-250 4x4 with a 460. The previous owner has done away with most of the smog stuff. The egr pipe is plugged off. the air pump is disconnected. the manifolds have been welded shut where the egr tube goes. My question is this. If i remove the egr valve and all the other stuff that is already not working will this cause any running issues? By this i mean if i unplug the egr valve from the wiring harness is this going to make the computer go crazy? Im not worried about a check engine light just running issues. Also the 3 solenoids on the drivers side valve cover. if these are eliminated completely will there be running issues? The reason for doing this is I saw a desmogged 460 on Bank's website and I like the clean look. like i said the mechanical aspects are already non functioning what about the electrical aspect? Any help is greatly appreciated.
I did that on my 302...I only have a check engine light.....it does run a little rich but it's the bad ECT sensor. If you're really worried about how it'll affect you, you should look into getting a custom tune done on it or purchasing a TwEECer and changing the parameters...
thats just not in the budget right now. maybe somewhere down the road. did you just leave plugs where they were at? and eliminate everything and then tidy up the vacuum lines?
It's hard enough getting them to efficiently w/ everything connected & functional. Everything you mentioned disconnecting will result in error codes. Wouldn't surprise me if your engines running in failsafe mode as it is. Run error code scans. Should be interesting. Disconnect em & see what happens!
