Hey, I need a new main seal in the rear of the engine, I know the trannie has to be dropped to replace this, I don't have the skill or time, I have been told this will cost around $500. give or take, is this a fair price?
Also is there any threads in here for replacement beds?
I live in Indiana where there are many companies that sell them, I just can't find any!
Have you checked the intake Vee for oil puddles. Your oil leak may be coming from there, and leaking down the back of the engine.
Some of the Guru's will jump on here and explain.
Look to the West for a bed for your model. Very dry and less rust.
I certainly agree. If the seal in the EBPV actuator rod goes it blows oil into the middle of the V which then overflows and runs down the back of the engine. From the underside you'd swear it was the main seal leaking. Check up top. If the Vee has a puddle of oil in it then you know the leak is higher up than the main seal!
rear seals are rare to leak.. any fuel or oil filling the valley will flow to the back of the motor then out a very little weep hole.. then it drip's down and around the bell housing and off of the inspection plate...there is also a fuel feed line at the back of the passengers side head that can leak and do the same thing..
I concur with said comments. It's probably the pedestal leaking, which can be gutted and plugged for the cost of a plug, or pedestal o-rings leaking, which cost about $5 from Guzzle.
Take a look in the engine valley, if there's oil and crap in it, clean it up and drive it a bit and take a look to see if you can tell where the leak is coming from.
Not trying to hijack your thread but my truck has sprung a leak also. The valley looks alright (nothing from up front at the HPOP). It appears as though oil is coming down both sides of the rear of the motor. Any thoughts? I was thinking turbo orings. I can't do much on the road right now. I'm traveling across Kansas today.
