Don't read my signature, I am inquiring about my buddies truck.
2001 F350, Lairet, CC. 4X4, 7.3L, Automatic trans., 175,000klm (110,000miles).
I thought is was about time to do some maintanance on his truck but this time do it ourselves. He has always had a local shop do his work but lately $$, has become an issue. So here we go, a couple of back yard mechanics, with a cooler full, will be starting the work this coming Sat. First a couple of questions. Any recommendations to rear diff. fluids and grade (my F250 takes 75w-140, royal purple). Front axle fluids (my F250 takes 75w-90, royal purple). Transfer case fluids (my f25 takes Synchromax, royal purple).
I am still trying to find out the fluid capacities of his truck.
Do his F350 basicly take the same fluid as mine? Don't want to cause more problem for him.
Any help anyone can offer or suggestion.
Thanks
Ford now recommends 75w-140 in the front differential. I used Motorcraft synthetic in both front and rear. The transfer case takes the same fluid as the transmission.
Sorry should have put that in. Am I correct in thinking that you use 75w-140 front and rear? I was looking at Royal Purple. The rear is limited slip so a modifier is needed, but with RP oil it's already it it right?

yep, 75w-140 front and rear. I think it should say on the bottle if it has the modifier or not. I think it does have it.
The manual says 75w-90 with 2.7 L of oil for the front and 74w-140 for the rear with 4.0 L of oil and the transfer case says to use Mercon ATF with 2.0 L of oil. Any recomedations to a better oil like maybe Royal Purple Synthetic.

Well, if you don't believe me or the rest of the guys here, call your ford dealer and see what they say. There was a TSB about this, but I can't seem to find it right now.
