Re-manufactured 4.2 first run - temp indicator problem - please help!
1997 Ford E250 4.2 Engine. I just pulled the old one out and stuck in a shiny re-manufactured motor with a 4 year/million mile warranty.
The new motor started right up the very first try but within 3 seconds the temp sensor maxed out at over 400 degrees. I'm not talking three minutes but within three seconds of turning the key to the "On" position.
The engine block was cool to the touch, the radiator fluid was at 70 degrees but the temp sensor is showing 400 degrees.
All of the fluids are topped off to the proper capacities.
The engine starts beautifully and purrs like a kitten, but I don't want to start breaking her in or even running her for more than a minute with a faulty temp gauge.
What would give me erroneous readings on the temp gauge?
The van is a 1997 but I believe the new engine is a 2004. Are there any differences in sensors??? Where should I start looking to find a solution?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
