My first regen occurred at around 650 miles. and has been pretty consistant around 260-290 miles thereafter (when it completes a full regen). When cut short due to getting home just after it starts (always seems to be the case) the regens usually occur again in about 75 to 100 miles and will continue to do so at this interval until I get a chance to let it do a complete regen....Complete regens take about 10 minutes at highway speeds or as long as 30 minutes if driving in traffic or mixed driving conditions. I only have about 2500 miles on my truck so my data is limited....I am guessing as the motor gets more miles on it and more internal soot is built up, the frequency will also increase....
A good friend of mine is the service manager at the local Ford Truck dealership. He told me that it's very important to add Cetane booster for the 6.4L to run right and avoid excessive regen cycles. I guess he feels that if the Cetane is too low, the engine generates more smoke, causing additional regeneration cycles.
I still haven't got a straight answer out of him about Spartanizing my truck and whether he'll look the other way, covering my warranty if something goes wrong. He just keeps saying "do the severe maintenance schedule and life will be good"
