AE update issue

For those of you who have AE.....

I updated my AE software a short while ago and found that I lost the ability to monitor the oil temp. I called AE and they suggested that I upgrade the firmware for the Proline connector and that fixed the problem. The firmware is available on their website.

Couple of notes of caution while updating firmware.
Make sure the ScanTool software is not running.
If you have the USB Proline then you can perform the update indoors while connected to AC power. (assuming you have a laptop...) It's important that your laptop does not go to sleep or into hibernation mode while installing the firmware software so sit there and watch the progress and move the mouse as often as necessary to keep the laptop awake.

If you have the serial connector, then you'll have to perform the update at the vehicle. Make sure the engine is off and you have enough battery power on your laptop or run an extension cord.

The update took about 4-5 minutes.

Good information to know. I will have to check it again to make sure mine still reads the oil temp.

Thanks

Hmmm... maybe I need to update mine. How old is your AE?

Thanks for the tips. I need to update the proline so I can start using it on my truck instead of using the old connector.

I think I bought mine in Feb of this year. AE said that I had version 26 and the new version is 28 (or something like that...)

Generally, I don't worry about upgrading stuff unless there is a good reason. My reason for upgrading to 8.3 was that I was hoping to see the transmission temp in degrees instead of volts. Still not there yet (even with version 8.4). I spoke with Manuel at AE and he says that it is definitely coming out soon because lots of Ford and Jaguar users have been requesting that feature.

I'm guessing you just go to their website to download the updates?

Yes, here is their website
Downloads

The top group has the latest software updates for PC, Palm etc. (I now see there is a note that says the Firmware update is also required for the ProLine connector.) Interesting......

The firmware update file for the ProLine connector is the next group down. Look for a file named:
ae-firmwareupdater.zip
