Just had my flush done, and now I want to change the filter myself. Can I buy filter at auto zone etc. or do i need it from ford. How to I change the filter anyone have a process. I see 4 lines coming to it, but not sure how to change it. I would go to ford but they have rubbed me the wrong way already, i get hesitant going to them and not even sure they do what they say. I told them my coolant level was low twice before i left truck, to check that and other fluids etc. Their inspection report card. They checked eveything off as being good. I decided to check myself and of course coolant was in same spot not checked, but on sheet it was. Then on the ext filter their is oil looking residue. I told them to check it and of course they didn't. So when i took back to fill coolant and gripe about it, I told them about that and he said i need to bring the truck back in for that. I just do not get these places. We buy trucks fromt hem and they screw ya hard.. What does it take to get good service. I know doing it yourself. Trust me once i figure it out i will be. So anyone can help me on ext filter change, and is there and internal filter also.I have an 08 fx4 job 1 truck.
I bought my filter on Amazon, much cheaper. To change the external filter you will need a line release tool. Sometimes the lines can be tough to get to pop loose out of the filter, especially if it is the first time. You may need a small crow bar and gently pry and wiggle on the lines to get them loose, grease them putting it back together. You can find the release tool by googling it, about $9. You will need 1/2 quart of fluid for the filter only. The internal filter is reallty a fine screen, easy to change, pops out easy and available on line. The pan gasket is reusable. There is a torque setting for the bolts on the pan, better look it up. Wear safety glasses! The fluid replacement is 9 qts for the filter, at least on mine. Good luck, brad
