My truck has about 80k miles on it and I am preparing to tune it. I have bought the dashdaq and licensing up to 250 Tune. I am about purchase AFE II Pro-Guard 7 and Flo-Pro 4" CAT/DPF Delete. I plan on keeping the rest of the exhaust stock (i like the stock tips). Anyone have any input for changes or similar set up experience? I am hoping to have a quiet cab noise at cruising highway speeds and some noise IF I ever have to hammer into it . And of course I need this engine to last for a long time.
A few quick tips for you, remove the entire exhaust by unbolting the hangers from the frame rails (3 small bolts on each). Then do what you need to do to it and then bolt the hangers back in place. It's much easier than wrestling it off the rubber hangers and then back onto them. You might want to buy a spare sensor for the exhaust (the one in the DPF), it's a real PIA to get out and most people end up breaking it. I know most guys are like me and do their mods on the weekend and you'll be crying if it breaks and there are no places open to get the replacement. Other than that the air boxes are fairly easy to replace, just follow the instructions it came with. Tuning the truck is the easiest part and just follow the on screen instructions it gives you and you'll be fine. DO NOT at any time turn off the key while tuning (unless it tells you too) or you'll be in a world of hurt and the truck will be a boat anchor. Good Luck
Not sure, most guys I talk to have gotten them right from Ford but they want around $100 for it. Maybe someone else can let you know another source with better pricing.
Well I called Lordco yesterday and they wanted $180! It shouldn't have surprised me they also wanted about $600 for an AFE II Pro 7. How do you like the flo pro exhaust? Is it straight piped or do you use a muffler?
I'm really happy with the Flo Pro and have been since day 1, install was very easy and everything fit like a glove. I used the muffler that came with the kit because I didn't want an excessive amount of noise and I'm really happy with how it sounds. I've heard of guys turning the muffler backwards for a bit more noise or straight pipe it if you want a permanent headache, haha. As for the exhaust sensor you might get lucky and get it out but I barely got mine out and that was with roughly 7000km on it so I can imagine with close to 80,000 miles yours will be even more welded in there. Having a new one on hand will probably come in handy and save some swearing.
okay thanks man. Never mind, did some research EGT sensor. Where can I buy one, Lordco?
If you're working w/ an authorized Spartan dealer, they should be able to get you 1 for about $85.00. That's what my Spartan dealer charged me last year when I finally did the DOC/DPF delete. I don't know who his vendor is though. The shops that do this sort of work generally have'm handy because they're such a problem.....
i wonder how it will sound with the stock muffler because im going to be keeping that part stock. im just looking for a good turbo whistle which i know is hard with these trucks. but i want a quiet cab on the hwy.
i actually bought the dashdaq used and am just paying spartan for the licensing fee for the tunes up to 250. do you have to buy the tcm tunes? is it worth it? im only going up to the 250 tune.

The stock "muffler" is nothing but a can (basically). You can look right thru it. My truck is straight piped and isn't noisy in the cab. Yes, the sound is different, but not annoying. You'll get the turbo whistle with the AFE CIA. You don't need to buy the TCM tunes unless you have the Spartan TCM. You won't need it w/ the 250 and below tunes anyway.

I have straight pipes with the Banks Exhaust, it is quiet on the highway as far as engine noise. If the radio is off, I can hear a little tire whine from my Mud-Terrains, but even that is not very noticeable as these trucks are pretty well sound proofed i think.
