alternator is newish, but all the lights (interior/exterior) flicker...im thinking i already have a bad ground because of the starting system not always want to start the truck, its like i have to wait for it to cool down or something?
i need to buy a voltmeter i guess to check the alternator but where else should i check?
check the voltage regulator on the passenger side inner fender..... see if those bolts are loose.... it grounds on the inner fender.... also see ground wire from battery to engine block.
I would say if you have flicker, or paulsation, it is a due to a bad ground. Make sure your battery has a good ground on the block. There should be another from the block to the frame. Also check your voltage regulator, and make sure it has a clean ground too. Depending on what year you have it will be on the radiator support, or the passenger side fender well near the battery.
As far as not starting and your sure it is heat releated, I could guess it is your ignition control modual. ICMs are notorious for this, and is a good idea to carry a spare with you at all times.
All of my lights were doing that ,plus going off and then back on last week , which was not good at freeway speeds. I replaced the headlight switch and the problem went away.
