Grenaded the distributor in hot laps but other than that it ran good.
At least it did not happen when you really needed it
I have a question about intake manifolds. eventually I am going to have to upgrade my manifold/head combo. This will unfortunately require swapping to a carb style combo as I have yet to find any aftermarket heads or intake manifolds for the EFI 460. I found this manifold on summit and was interested because it has injector boss's built in and ready to be drilled. The problem I see is that it's operating range is 3500 to 8000 RPM's. I do the most of my normal driving between 1500 to 2200 RPM's. If I was to install this, what would it do to driveability?

Jeff it is a single plane. Unless your going to be racing all the time find a dual plane. The drivablility will be much better on the street. With much lower RPM requirements. It would be cheaper to go to the old style heads & have the smog humps removed & run a Edelbrock Performer manifold. I run that on my 86 460 4x4 with a 4160 Holley 600 CFM. I run in the same RPM area as you want to run. PM me if I can help out any further. I'm fairly up on the that area of 460 engines.

Without opening the link, I know enough about Edelbrock stuff to tell you that you don't want a Victor for the street. That manifold is designed with large runners and a plenum which will kill your intake velocity at low rpm. This reduces the amount of air/fuel going into the cylinder at low rpm and consequentially, your low end torque suffers. With a Victor, it will suffer badly. Edelbrock does a pretty good job of matching up their components for a given application. A stock or Performer style IM is what will work best for you.
thanks steve. it feels good to be back. now all i have to do is stick it out in the navy for a couple more months then i get to go home and terrorize the town...LOL
apparently it's missed everyone! other than what i've posted up in the last couple days it's been over a week since anyone has posted anything on there! SAD
Thanks for the info about the intake manifold. I kind of figured as much but wanted confirmation. I plan on putting the carb'd heads on the engine but, I am going to stick with the fuel injection. That leaves me with two options. 1: take a carb'd manifold and have it modified to allow for the injectors. Or 2: have a manifold custom built. Oh well, That part of the project is on the back burner for later. Thanks again everyone.
The first step is to get the motor mounts and clutch to do the engine swap. Step two will be selecting a forged crank, rods, and pistons.
Happy Friday! Thunder and lightning here right now, it rained pretty good last night but no rain at the moment. 84 and muggy! Nevada Dirt Track Championship this weekend at Rattlesnake Raceway if anyone's in the area.
Oh Jeff, one additional note on the intake manifold, besides all the other good information you've gotten, the Mr said those ports are for nitrous injection, just FYI.
