I have a 1995 F150 with a 5.8L with 47,000 miles. The last few days when I have first started the truck cold, it will start fine but then when the idle starts to slow down it starts running rough for several seconds and then speeds back up and then idles down just fine. Is this normal operation or is there something to be worried about. There is not codes or check engine light. Please hare your thoughts. Thanks in advance.
I am also wondering if the spark plugs might have something to do with it. They are original but still 15 years old. I am not sure if that would make any difference. The truck is in mint condition and was owned by an older couple so I am sure it made many short trips around town.
I foresee an ignition tuneup in your future...Get rid of those old components. Install a new distributor cap, rotor, wires and plugs. I suggest the air and fuel filter be on the list of maintenance items too.
I was leaning toward the ignition tuneup as well.. I did replace the air and fuel filter a few days back when I serviced it. I pulled one of the spark plugs out and they don't look bad but with my experience that does not always mean anything. I also checked for vacuum leaks, and all the hoses and lines seem to be fine.
