Annual Reminder - Grease Your Front Unit Bearings!

It's late August, and time for the annual reminder to grease your 4WD front wheel bearings by shooting grease through the ABS sensor holes.

For you new guys, here are some reference threads:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...bearingss.html

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...-bearings.html

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...pics-here.html

This year mine are getting the NLGI #2 blue Delo chassis lube grease.

This is NOT the 60,000-mile greasing of your front "needle bearings". Guzzle's maintenance pages covers that nicely. Click here.

Remember, this is for the 4WD guys that have front ABS sensors. You 2WD guys already can re-pack your bearings.

Almost 200,000 thousand miles on my right front unit bearing by using this method, so I believe it works!

Tried this about 2 weeks ago and the sensor broke off in the hole.
Now I have the dang ABS light on the dash glaring at me...

I read on here awhile back about drilling out your own hole to lube em up. I never could bring myself to do it. Just doesn't sound right. I'm sure some have had good luck doing it though.

Nope, not for me either. Definitely sounds like something that I will screw up for sure. I am real good at converting a $0.00 project into a $1000 repair. I guess next time my hubs go out I'll get the kind with the ABS hole and find some way to keep dirt from getting down in there.

....now where is my PSD list so I can add that sucker on there??? Actually, it is more of a 3 ring binder with tabs and illustrations than a simple list....

Maybe someone who is changing out their hub assembly will give you their old abs cable? Not that I remember for sure but is one side longer than the other?

You can fix your abs light on the dash by stragetically placing a piece of black electrical tape over the light. Totally kidding of course.

While your greasing your bearings and such. Reach up there and grease your balljoints too! Also a good time to look at the adjusting sleeves and stuff too.
