I think if I stay with the "C" rated LT tires I will be better off with loads than the "P" tires and better riding than with "E" rated LT tires. It all comes down to size and tire maker.
Well... I sold the 20's on craigslist and just purchased some 275/65R18XL (extra load) Nitto Terra Grapplers. These tires are not LT, but they have a load index of 120 which gives me 3089lb @50psi. Even accounting for the 10% reduction puts these tires at a better spot than the ones I had. My guess is these are very similar to a C load tire given the max 50psi. I'm sure the ride will change, but not as much as if I purchased the E load 10 ply ones. I'll take pics when they get in and then when they are on the truck.
Tires arrived Friday! Once my new tpms arrive I can mount them on the "new" 18s. My buddy is doing me a favor, so my truck has to site on 'blocks' in my garage while he takes the tires and wheels to be mounted. Hopefully before this week is out I'll have the new tires on and be looking to sell the Goodyear Wrangler SRAs.
I kept the same size dimensionally. I just dropped the wheel from 20 to 18. Pics soon I hope. I keep getting side tracked with other stuff when I'm in the garage.
Okay I took a few pics of the tires. I am excited to have these on my truck and end this 'project' to swap from 20s back to 18s. If my stems and tpms sensors would only show up I could complete this project.
Are you referring to the 'wrench' wheels? If so they are
Stock 18" wheel size
Width = 7.5
Diameter = 18"
Offset = 44mm (1.73228)
Number of bolts = 6
bolt pattern = 6 x 135
backspacking = 5.5"
I stayed with the stock size 275/65R18 and the tires are great so far. My buddy set them at 50 and they are kinda rough when the truck is not loaded, so I'll likely back them down to 45 unless I am towing/hauling. It is raining, so I'll wait until it clears to take and post some pics. I like the look of the tires too.
Overcast day and crappy blackberry equals fuzzy picture. Here is my truck with my 'new' Wrench wheels and Nitto Terra Grapplers in OEM size 275/65R18. The nittos are great! I just used my reset tool to clear the malfunction light and I'm back in business. I like the way this 'project' turned out.
