7.3 Diesel Engine firing problem
I have a 1999 F-250 with the 7.3 in it. I have recently fixed the oil pan leaking issue, but now I am having problems with it running right. The other day I took it out on the road for a little test run after buttoning everything up. It ran great, but I remembered that I hadnt hooked the butterfly valve on the turbo up. (It is on the hot side exhaust part of the turbo. After being hooked up, it ran just fine. Since the truck was filthy from sitting in the shop, I gave it a bath at the local car wash. After this, it started running like crap! It wants to die when running in 1st and second and I cant get it in any of the higher gears. It shakes bad like a cylinder isnt firing. When I am in idle, it shakes too, but when I rev it up to about 2-2500 it begins to fire on all cylinders, and it blows white smoke out of the exhaust. I know white smoke is usually coolant, but it doesnt smell like coolant. It smells like really rich diesel! Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am leaning towards something I forgot to hook up, or I shorted something out when I gave it a bath.
