does it ever end?

okay im used to spending a little money on my trucks but this is getting out of control. since may i have put a 2010 bed and tailgate on, new idm, new cps, new valve cover gaskets, new glow plug wires, and just last week new ball joints, which by the way fixed most of my problem but the steering still isnt very tight. hopefully now that i have most everything fixed i can start buying some fun parts. but my question was are there any other parts that are known for wearing out that i haven't fixed yet or should be expecting?

Still a couple things that can always go out on ya like the transmission and injectors.

To be fair to your truck though, did you NEED the new bed and tail gate? The other stuff is part of regular maintenance unfortunately. Even though your truck is low mileage for a diesel, it is cresting 10 years old and stuff will wear out from time if not mileage.

Some money here or there can be a pain in the *** but it is usually cheaper than a new truck.

i agree, i love my truck its just getting expensive. i didnt have to have the bed and tailgate but i hit the old bed with the tractor and it was cheaper for me to go this route than it was to just get a new bedside put on. since i really didnt want to turn it in on the insurance and pay for it forever. and i really enjoyed the story about you and your truck. i've got alot of respect for you after reading that

Once you get everything else buttoned up on the frontend, you could try tightening the steering box if you haven't already. Not a permanent fix, but it usually works pretty darn good.

Guzzle's website has some great links for easy to do weekend projects that can help save in maintenance in the long run!

Thanks on the props by the way.

My philosophy is do the maintence now or do it later, and that ussually means on the side of the road. Guzzles pages are a great tool like mentioned above, check them out and schedule your weekend for one or two of them and so on.

on the bottom of the steeting box there is a lock nut and an allen slot. Put the allen in and loosen the nut, turn the allen 1/8to 1/4 turn to the right, tighten locknut while holding the allen. this will put a little more pressure on the worm gear. Do not tighten this allen very tight or you may have a problem turning the steering wheel.

(I think that is what izzybird is talking about)

still will be less than 62K for a new one... was just thinking about this. 38k in 2000 plus 62 k if I buy a new one = 100k or 10k a year. I spent 34k for it in 2001 and about 8k in only maintenance parts over that time.. about 4200 a year... has anyone seen where the rest of my money is? I seem to have misplaced my savings... lol
