Basically, I'm trying to lift a 1999 mercury cougar with a 2892 lb curb weight. I have a 2 car garage and space is an issue, but not the decider of what lift I'm going to get (though it helps) . Measured out my ceiling height is 148`, and I have yet to measure my concrete but I'm willing to do the work when the time comes.
I need it to be able to move, but I also need to get UNDER the car.
I've come down to a few choices and these are some of them: feel free to show me some other lifts!
I've been looking at the 4 post movable lifts. You drive on to ramps, so it's not open under the car and you still have to jack a wheel to do wheel or brake work, but trans and axle work should be ok. They lower on to casters if you want and you can roll the whole thing around. I was looking to make it a partial "2nd story" in my garage.
If you search via google, you will find many hits on all varieties, with install stories, ratings, experience etc. Bendpak seems to do OK from what I've seen.

That thing's awesome! I found some bridge jacks for it so I'd be able to work on the wheels while it's lifted too. But you would say 4 post over 2 post? I only have the 1 car so I don't have the necessity for a "2nd" story. But that would definitely be nice to have for the future.
I have an Eagle 2-post 10,000lb lift, 220 volt .
Things to think about, most bolt down 2-post lifts require a min. of 4" concrete so for exhisting garages of unknown thickness you might have to cut thru and measure\re-poor. For removeability the 4-post or side lift systems would work well. Also keep in mind the ceiling height. If the ceiling is low you would want to tray the ceiling for more work room and some lift would be too tall for a normal 8' ceiling.
My shop is a 24' x 24' with 16' roll up door, 200 amp electrical service, 10' ceiling, 6" concrete floor reinforced with rebar and weldwire panels in the concrete, heat, air, stereo, water, phone and cable. The only vehicles in it are my projects so having the eagle 2-post use up some of the room and not be able to park a second car does not hurt my feelings.
future additions will be air lines run to all walls in shop for compressor tools.

Thanks for the tip e, I was gonna redo the concrete eventually but I still haven't gotten the lift.
So you got the eagle? Got any comments on the brand?
As far as Eagle goes I would buy from them again without hesitation.
I had test ed the lift height empty and went too high so the cylinder got jammed at the top where the pully is for the cable...called tech suppoert and they assumed that maybe the cylinders were warped or bent from factory to cause this, shiped out (no charge at all) 2 new cylinders which I still have wraped in the shipping material, never installed, never needed (it was my mistake). You get a 5 year parts warranty, ship\freight is included in the purchase price as well.
Installed myself, have used often for the past 9 years with no regret for the purchase...
The only change I would make would be to have taller ceiling and buy the auto shutoff model.
