4x4 vs. 2x4 engine perches

I got talking to a friend about my engine swap I am getting ready to do. I told him how I am pulling a 351w from a 2x4 truck and putting it in my 4x4. I said how I was going to buy a set of perches from a guy for a 351m 4x4. My buddy said I could use the perches from the 2x4 to put in my truck, but I told him the 4x4 were different from the 2x4. So are the perches for a 351m 4x4 the same as a 2x4?

2wd 351m mounts bolt to crossmember of 2wd which is NOT there for 4wd

78 f250 4wd w/ 351M red marks show where mounts bolted and the lack of the 2wd crossmember

The 2wd perches will not work as lostinfords was saying since the frame cross member is in front of the engine. Is this for your '77 F-150? Reason why I ask is that you will be looking for 351/400 perches from another F-150 4wd only. The F-250 perches will not work as they have a different bolt spacing. Also I can't remember if there is any differences between the F-150 perches from year to year. As for the motor mounts I went and purchased some for an early 80's 4x4 with a 351W. If your truck has a 300 I-6 you'll need different perches, but the bellhousing will bolt up. If you have 351/400M the perches should be the same, but you'll need diiferent trans for a small block ford. Hope this helps.

Which part of the bellhousing are you referring to? The 300 bell is not the same as the 351M/400 after the early 70s, when the 400 had a dual bell bolt pattern. If you mean that the manual trans will mate to both the 351M/400 bell and 300/Windsor bell then yes it will interchange.

What I meant is that the 300 uses a small block ford bolt pattern for the bell housing which is the same pattern as the 351W that mudder460 mentioned in his post that he wants to install.

Thanks guys, I know the bell is the same and I knew the 150 and 250 perches are different. Now another question is, will the z-bar pivot bracket that attaches to the bellhousing from a 351m fit on my smaller bellhousing?
