Cylinder one blown
The day I picked up the truck after the manifold was replaced, the truck was running as well as it ever has. I picked up my boat and was towing on the highway when I experienced the feeling as if I was driving over railroad tracks at 70 mph, at first I thought maybe I had a flat tire, or was driving on a bad section of road (if you live in Michigan you would understand that). Anyways, the shaking quit after 15 seconds or so, only to do it again in 15-20 seconds. I first did not realize I had a potential engine problem, but realized my truck seemed to be slowing down, I then looked @ the dash and noticed the check engine light flashing. Exited from the highway and truck nearly would not stop, brakes were to the floor, apparently loss of vacum causing poor braking. At the stop, the truck was sputtering and idling very rough (felt like it was going to stall.) Upon acceleration, truck was missing and continuing to sputter. Parked car for the weekend and took to mechanic who put it on computer, it read misfire cylinder one. There is no compression and appears I will have an expensive repair job. Unfortunately the 60K powertrain warranty was not in effect with my vehicle and I do not have an extended warranty. Since this happened immediately after exhaust manifold repair, could there be any corelation, I do trust the mechanic, but you never know? I am not mechanical at all and unfortunately rely on research and asking questions to learn as much as I can, but have never been mecanically inclined. Sorry, if this has been addressed in another thread, my questions are, could there be any connection to the previous repair under normal circumstances? Has anyone had this happen to them? If so, what was the cause? What was the fix? Seems very hard to believe that without any warning at all on such a well taken care of motor with few miles I can be faced with this type of issue. Thanks in advance for any help.
From your description, it sounds like it could be a head gasket. I would find it interesting and would like to see pictures if you sucked a valve or burned a piston. If that is the case, then make sure they show it to you (take the pictures then) when they pull the head.
Oh by the way, Welcome to the forum. (Both of you)
