If your just welding body panels than a mig welder of 90 amps
or more would be fine, I just sold a miller 90 amp for $200
but that would be as small as you could go. If your going
to buy one you may as well buy a larger 140 amp or so
in case you want to weld larger down the road. Body panel
welding is almost always done in short "spots" along the
panel slowing filling them in , as if you try to weld from end to end
all at once it will overheat and warp. That being said I suggest
getting all your parts lined up and just pay a welder to do it
for you. Less money than a quality welder and a lot less hassle!
I tried the whole buy it and always have it approach but in the
end you never need to weld as much as you think you will
and some skill is needed here to do the job right. A good welder
will do it for you pretty reasonable I bet. GOOD LUCK

That is what I was thinking too. My son's friend's father has all of the equipment and I asked a couple of questions but didn't ask if he would weld the parts. Maybe a call is in order.
MIG Welding is easy if your patient and have a little mechanical skill. But being a first timer I don't think it's a good idea to learn on your trucks sheetmetal. As bad a welder that you might be, is just as good a bondo guy you will become in order to get a smooth finnish!!! I do a good bit of welding and like to think I'm good at it but I always cringe when I think about doing sheetmetal. Just pay a guy. You looking at $500+ to do it yourself or a sixpack to have a friend do it.
