Fuel tank retainer ring

Ok I droped my tank to check the screen and it was completly clean. I was threading the retainer ring back on by tapping it to turn because it's such a tight fit. I checked the assembly to see when it getting held by the ring and then snap the ring broke. Has anyone ever had this issue or herd of it. It was hard to get it started on straight from the begining. Would this be a dealer part or can you get on aftermarket. It is holding the assembly tight I just wont be filling the tank full just about half way.

I looked at Ed's site in my sig and only see the the fuel tank listed. I would check with your dealer or Ed. Maybe someone on here has an extra one for you.

I know what you mean by getting the ring started, it took me about 10 min before it catched the threads on the tank.

I went to parts guy ed's site.
www.partsguyed.com

Set up my OEM Automotive parts. Year/make/model/

Then typed in "retainer ring" in the search box.

Then two listing show up.
The bottom listing is your retaining nut. You can view illustration to see it.

It don't show up with a part number. I would just click Add to Cart.

I know with Guzzles mods and maintance pages your supposed to chalk mark a spot from the ring to the tank so you can properly align the cap but thats a little to late. Check or call around junk yards for a SD or EX, I'm sure if you find one you'll find a cap, most people don't run into the tanks much, good luck.

I think this is the first time I recall hearing of that breaking. What were you using to tighten the ring back up? A hammer and block of wood like many of us use?

If you either leave it in the sun for a bit or put it in some hot water it will expand the ring and make it much easier to install it.

It was going on straight and then I just needed another full turn and it would have been tight. The thing is it took more to get it off that to but it back on. I just fell like it could have had a flaw on it in the begening. or it was built on a Friday.

You might try a PM to another forum member with the handle "oldwood". I know he has a parts truck or two. I bought a radiator fan from him.
