Code 15 = EEC toast?

Code 15 = EEC toast?
4/1987 F150 XLT Lariat, 5.0L, Auto trans, Reg cab short bed, 4x4.
I've tried checking lots of things since my 87 F150 began running bad, hard to start & keep running, irregular idle, tries to stall, hard shift to 2nd, etc.....
Finally got it to check codes using a 12v lamp since my CEL is not not connected or has no lamp of it's own. I got code 15, which means in KOEO, EEC permanent Read Only Memory (ROM) test failed.
This means the main program ROM is invalid or not working. So, guess this explains why such cantankerous running. This most likely also means it's time for a replacement EEC.
Anybody have an inexpensive source for this?
BTW, may be buying a 98 XLT 4.6L auto 2wd tomorrow to replace the old gal.

As a continuos memory code, I think it means a power interruption during test.
If it was during the KOER, It may be toasted & buttered (side of jam w/ that?). Don't sound good. Sounds like failsafe mode.
I'd clear the KAM by disconnecting the battery for at least 5 minutes. See how it treat's you after that.
If no improvement, Google "Ford rebuilt ECU". The #'s off your's would come in handy. Should be behind the drivers side kick panel.
