WHAT AM I MISSING

well let me see if i can explain this correctly. i have a 2000 f250 and while double checking my clamps on my boots before the turbo i noticed on the pipe coming from the passanger side of the exhaust, before it gets to the turbo there is a fitting there in the pipe with nothing connected to it,
A. what is this for
B. should it be connected ( i know it sounds like a stupid question but you never know) lol

I would guess it was for a pyrometer gauge.

Couldn't hurt. Otherwise, you have a small exhaust leak.

There's different schools of thought about whether the pyrometer sensor should be pre-turbo or post-turbo.

Someone in this truck's history subscribed to the pre-turbo philosophy, which also seems to be the most common. Since you're measuring the exhaust gas temperature, seems like you would want to measure it as close to the exhaust valve as possible, not after it has been cooled a bit by passing through the turbo.

It's a pretty-small hole you've got there, so not surprising you hear nothing.

Putting a gauge in it wouldnt be a bad idea anyways cause as you said in your other thread your checking for boost leaks and a gauge would tell you those PSIs!

Ummm, I believe this gauge would tell him the temperature of his exhaust gasses, not his boost pressure.
